Pitchfolk Media launches new film site, The Dissolve

Brooklyn, NY and Chicago, IL (July 8, 2013) – Pitchfork Media, publisher of the online music publication Pitchfork, the essential guide to independent music and beyond, has announced the debut of its new film site, The Dissolve, on Wednesday, July 10.

Led by Editorial Director Keith Phipps, a veteran film writer, The Dissolve will be a playground for film lovers, featuring insightful reviews, commentary, interviews, and news about the films of the moment, while also exploring more than a century of film history. The site will also conduct in-depth conversations with filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors while offering commentary that goes beyond gossip and box-office results.

TheDissolve-flag-smIn the first two weeks of publication, The Dissolve will unveil a number of ongoing features focusing on films both new and old, including The Conversation, a weekly discussion between The Dissolve’s writers about the films of the day. On Monday, July 15, the site will premiere the first installment of its multi-part Movie of the Week feature, in which The Dissolve’s staff focuses on a film of their choosing for several days. Other regular features will include Departures, in which Editor Scott Tobias looks at unexpected entries in the filmographies of notable figures, as well as Interdisciplinary, where staff writer Noel Murray explores the extracurricular activities of filmmakers and those who have made filmmaking their second career. In Performance Review, contributor Mike D’Angelo goes back in time to rediscover great performances that went unrecognized by major awards in their day, while in The Laser Age, Phipps plunges into the wave of science-fiction films that began in the late 1960s. AndForgotbusters finds staff writer Nathan Rabin exploring the world of blockbusters that ended up making little or no impression, from The Golden Child to the 1998 Godzilla remake.
